Catalonia education communities protest school shortages and infrastructure issues

The start of the new school year in Catalonia is marked by widespread protests and systemic issues regarding public education infrastructure and capacity. In Badalona, educational communities at Ventós Mir and Badalona Port schools are protesting decades of institutional neglect, citing the use of dilapidated prefabricated modules and a lack of permanent facilities.

In Cerdanyola, families from La Sínia school demonstrated to demand the restoration of a second nursery group (I3) that was not offered during pre-registration. Similarly, in Sagunt, local officials report that the public school system is at its limit, with a critical shortage of vacancies in primary and secondary education due to high student influx.

In Tarragona, approximately 500 teachers held a demonstration to demand improved working conditions and increased staffing. Despite police presence preventing certain road closures, the assembly focused on labor rights and educational improvements.
