Catalan Government reactivates second TDT multiplex
The Government of Catalonia has announced the reactivation of a second digital terrestrial television (TDT) multiplex. This move is intended to modernize the regional audiovisual sector and expand content availability in the Catalan language.
Under the new technical plan, which is scheduled to take effect on November 5, the frequency distribution for the multiplex will be divided: 50% is assigned to the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals (CCMA), 25% to RTVE Catalunya, and the remaining 25% is reserved for a potential future private operator to be selected via public tender.
Key developments include an agreement with RTVE to reserve space for programming produced entirely in Catalan at the Sant Cugat production center. Additionally, the reactivation will allow TV3 to begin broadcasting in ultra high definition (UHD). The initiative is described by the government as a strategic move to leverage public infrastructure for innovation and linguistic preservation.
