Spain TDT technical transition and channel updates

Overview

Spain is preparing for a technical transition in its Digital Terrestrial Television (TDT) system scheduled for November 5. This update will introduce 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) channels, including La 1 UHD, La 2 UHD, Antena 3 UHD, and Telecinco UHD.

To access these broadcasts, viewers will require television sets that support the DVB-T2 standard and the HEVC (H.265) codec. While most models manufactured since 2017 are expected to be compatible, users may need to rescan their channels to accommodate the new signals and lineup changes. Existing HD versions of the channels will remain available for those with older hardware.

In addition to the technical shift, a new generalist channel named La Séptima will debut in HD. The channel is currently recruiting established professionals, such as journalist Verónica Sanz, to build its roster for news, analysis, and entertainment programming.
