Catalan independentist parties rally for upcoming municipal elections
Jordi Martí, president of Junts in the Barcelona City Council, announced that he has secured the required signatures to run in the party’s internal primary for the municipal election list. He posted a message on X thanking supporters and noted that the signature collection period remains open until 11 June. Other Junts figures, including Pilar Calvo, Glòria Freixa and Jaume Alonso‑Cuevillas, are also vying for candidacies.
Lluc Salellas, mayor of Girona, called for a stronger CUP slate ahead of the 2027 municipal elections, describing the PSC as a “party of the regime.” He outlined four priority areas for the CUP platform—housing, the Catalan language, energy transition and reindustrialisation—while advocating limits on speculative housing purchases and tourism.
