Catalan libraries expand cultural programming and summer reading services

Public libraries in Catalonia are expanding their cultural offerings through specialized reading programs and mobile services.

In Reus, the Municipal Libraries have announced a programming schedule for the 2026-2027 course featuring 32 reading clubs. Notable additions include a two-year long-term project dedicated to reading James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’ with the help of specialists, a ‘Km0’ club for local authors, and an easy-reading club organized with the ExplainUp Association to assist readers with diverse needs. The program also integrates various disciplines, such as music and feminism, and includes a virtual club for universal literature.

Meanwhile, in Tàrrega, the ‘bibliopiscines’ (library pools) initiative has expanded to the Altet and Claravalls pools following successful participation. This program, managed through the Germanes Güell Library, provides a selection of children's, youth, and adult books, as well as comics and magazines, at municipal swimming facilities to encourage reading habits during the summer months.
