Catalan municipalities award major public contracts for asbestos removal and street cleaning
The Badia del Vallès town council approved the final lot of its first‑phase asbestos removal programme, awarding a contract worth more than €1 million to UTE Deltapunt for the safe demolition of asbestos‑containing fibre‑cement galleries and chimneys in 25 buildings. The work is fully funded by the Catalan Waste Agency as part of a €4.4 million regional grant, completing the phase that previously covered 102 buildings.
In Lleida, the Catalan Public Contracts Tribunal upheld a €262 million, ten‑year cleaning and waste‑collection contract, enabling the city to expand staff to 305 workers, renew its fleet with 119 new vehicles and introduce water‑based street cleaning. The agreement, signed after the dismissal of a legal challenge by FCC, was praised by Mayor Félix Larrosa as essential for improving public space and service quality.
