Catalan Parties Alhora and CUP Shape 2027 Municipal Election Strategies

Alhora announced its first municipal candidacy for the 2027 elections in Sant Cugat del Vallès, placing lawyer Maria Vila at the top of its list. Vila highlighted unaffordable housing, saying "there is a whole generation that has had to leave Sant Cugat because of the unaffordable price of apartments," and called for a local referendum on whether the municipality should remain integrated or become independent. The party also criticised the deterioration of public spaces, lack of nursery and senior‑care places, and the reliance on private services, positioning itself as an independentist, pragmatic alternative to traditional right‑ and left‑wing parties.

In Terrassa, the pro‑independence, anti‑capitalist CUP declared it will not present a list for the 2027 municipal elections, arguing that conditions are not favourable. The party stressed that "the most responsible and sincere option for the people of Terrassa is not to present a candidacy for inertia," and emphasized a return to grassroots activism, building its project from outside the city council to reinforce assembly‑based politics and social alliances.
