Catalan Parties Aliança Catalana Gains 867,000 Votes as Junts Loses Support Amid Puigdemont Return Debate

A recent GESOP poll for El Periódico projects Aliança Catalana to receive about 867,000 votes in a hypothetical election, a surge driven largely by voters leaving Junts per Catalunya and by protest voters from across the political spectrum. The survey estimates that roughly 22% of Aliança's new supporters come directly from Junts, while the remaining influx includes former voters of Vox, PSC, ERC, PP, CUP and others, as well as abstainers and blank‑ballot voters.

Junts vice‑president Josep Rius criticised the Spanish government's stance, saying Spain appears unwilling to allow Carles Puigdemont’s return. He linked the party’s declining poll numbers to broader dissatisfaction with the current Spanish and Catalan administrations and referenced the pending EU Court of Justice decision on a proposed amnesty law for Puigdemont. Rius suggested that Puigdemont’s eventual return could reshape the political balance in Catalonia.
