Catalan workers protest for beach safety and better labour conditions

In Calvià, lifeguards gathered outside the town hall to demand urgent improvements to beach rescue services. They highlighted seven drownings in the past year, five of which occurred in unmonitored areas, and called for expanded patrol hours, greater accessibility on all eleven beaches, and the construction of proper access walkways in Magaluf and Santa Ponsa. The crew scheduled a meeting with municipal officials on 31 July to discuss these issues, warning they will not accept further delays.

In Lleida, around sixty social‑care workers marched from Plaça de la Paeria to the Department of Social Rights, presenting a manifesto that demands a dignified collective agreement, wage alignment with the public sector, and staffing ratios that allow individualized care. Platform spokesperson Marc Sosa emphasized the vulnerability of the people they serve and warned of possible wider strikes if precarious conditions persist.
