Torrent expands floodable parks to include Barranc de l’Horteta
The Generalitat Valenciana is expanding its metropolitan floodable parks project by four kilometers to include the Barranc de l’Horteta in Torrent. This initiative aims to improve the capacity to manage heavy rainfall, mitigate flood risks, and promote environmental renaturalization.
Following meetings between Recovery Commissioner Raúl Mérida and Torrent Mayor Amparo Folgado, the project will incorporate a new cycle path designed to connect various local nuclei, such as Masía del Juez, El Pantano, and La Curra. This path will include a bridge over the Barranco de Guindilla and will be dimensioned to allow the passage of emergency vehicles, addressing accessibility issues identified during recent extreme weather events.
The expansion is intended to complement hydraulic works managed by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar. The project also involves land expropriations to facilitate the creation of a fluvial park and improved urban connections.
