Catalonia advances renewable energy through local solar projects and regional planning

The municipality of Freginals is advancing its sustainability goals through the installation of a 30 kW photovoltaic system on the roof of its multi-sport court. The project, totaling 47,068 euros, is largely funded by Impulsdicta, which will cover 98% of the investment, leaving the Freginals City Council to contribute only 2%.

In a broader regional context, the Catalan government is processing the Sectoral Territorial Plan for the Implementation of Renewable Energies (PLATER). This plan aims to decarbonize the Catalan energy system by 2050, requiring up to 62,000 MW of renewable energy. In the Vallès Oriental region, solar photovoltaic capacity must increase 48-fold by 2050 to meet targets. The plan identifies priority areas for these installations, including the vineyards of Can Torres in Sant Fost, as part of a strategy to utilize rooftops, artificial spaces, and non-urbanized land for energy production.
