Catalonia begins mid-season hunting period with new quail limits
The mid-season hunting period has commenced in Catalonia, authorizing the hunting of six bird species: quail, Canada goose, wood pigeon, rock dove, Eurasian turtle dove, and common starling. The regulations aim to align hunting activities with scientific knowledge and European conservation standards, specifically the Birds Directive, to ensure activities do not interfere with breeding cycles.
In the regions of Lleida, Cerdanya, and Solsonès, hunters are permitted to hunt on Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from August 20 until September 10. In the rest of Catalonia, the permitted days are limited to August 23, August 30, September 6, and September 13.
A notable change this year is the reduction of the daily capture limit for quail, which is now restricted to 15 specimens per hunter per day, down from 20 last year. Hunting is permitted in over 1,000 private and local hunting areas that follow current technical management plans.
