Mid-season hunting regulations in Catalonia

Overview

The mid-season hunting period has commenced in Catalonia, authorizing the hunting of six bird species: quail, Canada goose, wood pigeon, rock dove, Eurasian turtle dove, and common starling. Regulations aim to align activities with scientific knowledge and European conservation standards, specifically the Birds Directive, to prevent interference with breeding cycles.

In the regions of Lleida, Cerdanya, and Solsonès, hunting is permitted on Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from August 20 until September 10. In the rest of Catalonia, permitted days are limited to August 23, August 30, September 6, and September 13.

A notable change this year is the reduction of the daily capture limit for quail, which is now restricted to 15 specimens per hunter per day, down from 20 last year. Hunting is permitted in over 1,000 private and local hunting areas following current technical management plans.
