Catalonia raises non‑contributory pensions by €74 a month under new budget law

The Catalan Parliament approved amendments to the 2026 budget that lock in the autonomous complement for non‑contributory pensions, preventing automatic cuts if state pension amounts rise. The change means more than 56,000 pensioners will receive €853 per month – €74 more than under the previous rules – with the increase applied retroactively from 1 January.

President Salvador Illa, in a letter to party militants, described the approved budgets as a historic turning point for Catalonia, highlighting a €4.3 billion investment in mobility infrastructure over the next decade, the unblocking of the El Prat airport upgrade, and a new financing model projected to bring €4.7 billion to the region. He framed the measures as the most ambitious in Catalan history, aimed at stabilising the economy and boosting the region’s competitiveness within Spain and Europe.
