Catalonia faces governance challenges as far‑right AC threatens stability and left blocks chamber law

ERC president Oriol Junqueras warned that the rise of the far‑right Aliança Catalana, led by Sílvia Orriols, could make governing Catalonia impossible if the party secures the four to seven seats projected in recent polls. He said its presence would turn the party into a parliamentary blocker, jeopardising budget approval, legislation and dialogue with Madrid.

At the same time, left‑wing parties En Comú Podem and the CUP have halted the passage of a new chambers law proposed by Junts, ERC and the PPC. By referring the text to the Council of Statutory Guarantees, they argue the bill would create "silver chairs" that allow large companies to buy political influence, undermining social dialogue and favouring big corporations over small and medium‑sized enterprises.
