Catalonia launches €384 million plan to turn N‑II into urban promenade in Maresme

The Catalan government announced a €384 million mobility programme for the Maresme region, slated for completion by 2032. The plan will transform the national road N‑II into an urban promenade, reducing vehicle lanes, adding a continuous bike path and pedestrian walkway, and improving access to the C‑32 highway.

President Salvador Illa presented the schedule to local mayors, noting that the project moves from planning to execution. Mobility secretary Manel Nadal confirmed that the first tender for the “pacification” of the N‑II in Mataró will be issued this year, with construction to begin in the winter of 2027. Works include new roundabouts in Alella and Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, a pedestrian bridge in Sant Pol de Mar, and redesign of interchanges in several municipalities. Mayor David Bote of Mataró welcomed the initiative as a long‑awaited improvement for the community.
