Catalonia olive oil production expected to drop 34.6%
The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC) predicts a significant decline in olive oil production for the current campaign. Total production in Catalonia is expected to reach approximately 25,500 tons, which is roughly 34.6% lower than the 39,000 tons produced during the 2025/26 campaign.
Regional breakdowns indicate substantial losses: Lleida is expected to produce 9,500 tons compared to 12,000 last year, while Tarragona is projected at 15,000 tons, well below its previous 25,300 tons. Barcelona and Girona are estimated to produce 1,000 tons, down from 1,700.
FCAC spokesperson Antoni Galceran attributed the decline to late rainfall and a very dry spring and summer. While recent heavy rains in areas like Baix Ebre and Montsià have occurred, they arrived too late to significantly improve the fruit and have instead caused concerns regarding damage to infrastructure, farms, and roads, which may hinder the harvesting process.
