Spanish agricultural production and export trends
Overview
Spain’s agrifood sector has demonstrated significant growth and shifting production trends. In 2025, Spanish agrifood and fishing exports reached a record 78,044 million euros, driven largely by pork meat and olive oil. By the first half of 2026, fresh fruit and vegetable exports continued to rise in value, despite a minor decrease in total volume. Looking toward the 2026/27 campaign, production forecasts show an upward trend for specific crops. European stone fruit production is projected to increase by 9%, with Spain expecting a 6% rise in peach and nectarine yields. Regarding the olive sector, the second harvest forecast by INTERACEITUNA suggests table olive production for the 2026 campaign could reach 638,000 tonnes, a 26.94% increase over 2025. While strong physiological development from previous rains supports this high harvest, extreme heat and a lack of precipitation since February have caused dehydration in some dryland plots, which may affect fruit size. The sector is also increasingly focusing on the valorization of co-products generated during the milling process. Olive oil trends also show significant shifts. The 2025/26 campaign closed with approximately 1.29 million tonnes of production, with the Andalusia region accounting for roughly 79% of the national total. Spanish household consumption saw a major rebound in 2025, increasing by 20.4% to 318.7 million kilograms, the largest growth since 2010, fueled by a 27.5% decrease in family spending due to lower prices. As of late August 2026, preliminary data from the Agencia de Información y Control Alimentarios (AICA) indicates that Spanish olive oil stocks reached over 470,000 tonnes. While monthly outflows were approximately 94,083 tonnes, stocks are expected to settle around 370,000 tonnes by the end of September, roughly 100,000 tonnes higher than the same period last year.
