Catalonia commuter rail services resume after infrastructure failures

After a sinkhole disrupted the Montcada i Reixac rail corridor, the R2, R2 Nord and R11 commuter lines in Barcelona have been restored to normal operation. Repairs completed on Saturday involved pouring 365 m³ of concrete and 1 930 m³ of mortar to stabilize the ground, and a temporary speed restriction remains in the affected section.

The R3 line, which had been suspended due to a copper‑cable theft, has also returned to service, though passengers still face average delays of up to 30 minutes. A replacement bus service operates between Fabra i Puig and Puigcerdà, and travellers can use the R4 for part of the route. Monitoring of the infrastructure continues while the railway operator and infrastructure manager conduct further safety checks.

These actions restore mobility for thousands of daily commuters in the Barcelona metropolitan area after several days of disruptions caused by the ground collapse and the theft incident.
