Catalonia wild boar African swine fever cases reach 400

The number of wild boar testing positive for African swine fever (ASF) in Catalonia has reached 400 since the start of the outbreak. Recent analyses identified four new positive cases in the municipalities of Sant Cugat del Vallès and El Papiol.

According to reports from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, a total of 13,541 wild boars have been analyzed to date, with 13,141 testing negative. The outbreak has resulted in 72 notified foci, consisting of 3 primary and 69 secondary locations across 13 to 19 municipalities.

Containment efforts involve intensive searches for carcasses and population reduction strategies. These measures include the use of capture traps and controlled culling by rural agents and trained hunters under official supervision. A large-scale operation involving over 1,000 personnel, including rural agents, drones, and canine units, is currently active in high-risk zones.
