Catalonia's political landscape shifts as new left association challenges ERC

Albert Noguera Fernández, drawing on his experience with constituent processes in Latin America, argued that Catalonia lacks a sufficiently powerful force to launch a new constituent process. He linked this stalemate to broader socio‑economic changes, such as the rise of collaborative economies, and suggested that existing political values may hinder transformative reforms.

In Madrid, deputies Francesc‑Marc Álvaro and Carles Campuzano announced the creation of Esquerra Democràtica, a political association rather than a party. The group aims to gather independent activists and younger politicians to influence Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), positioning ERC as a central platform for Catalanism. They emphasized that the former Convergència model no longer exists and highlighted new societal issues—climate change, digital transformation, and migration—that were absent in earlier political debates. The association seeks to reshape the left‑wing front in Catalonia without reviving past party structures.
