Catamarca legislature advances professional and mining sector reforms

The provincial legislature in Catamarca, Argentina, has advanced several key initiatives. The Senate passed Law No. 5954, which officially changes the name of the “Colegio de Asistentes Sociales” to the “Colegio Profesional de Trabajadores Sociales de Catamarca.” This change aims to institutionalize and elevate the professional status of social workers within the province.

Additionally, the Senate granted semi-sanction status to projects focused on preserving historical archives within the Civil Registry and combating human trafficking. The chamber also approved resolutions aimed at improving road infrastructure across various departments.

In the Chamber of Deputies, lawmakers approved a modified project to transform Catamarca Minera y Energética (CAMYEN) into a Single-Member Corporation (S.A.U.). While the company will operate under the General Companies Law, the provincial state will retain full ownership of the social capital. The project, which must now return to the Senate for review, seeks to improve operational efficiency in the mining and energy sectors. Proponents emphasized that the move is not a privatization but a way to modernize management, allowing the board to manage mining rights under technical and environmental criteria.
