Catamarca legislative and economic reforms

The provincial legislature in Catamarca, Argentina, is advancing several legislative initiatives focused on professional reforms, industrial modernization, and territorial development.

In the mining and energy sectors, the Chamber of Deputies approved a project to transform Catamarca Minera y Energética (CAMYEN) into a Single-Member Corporation (S.A.U.). While the provincial state will retain full ownership, the move is intended to improve operational efficiency and modernize management. Proponents emphasize that the project is not a privatization but a method to allow the board to manage mining rights under technical and environmental criteria. The project must now return to the Senate for review.

Regarding professional status, the Senate passed Law No. 5954, which officially renames the “Colegio de Asistentes Sociales” to the “Colegio Profesional de Trabajadores Sociales de Catamarca” to institutionalize the profession.

In terms of regional and social development, the Chamber of Deputies granted semi-sanction to a project establishing the Provincial System of Territorial Innovation Agencies (AIT) to provide technical assistance and machinery access to entrepreneurs. Additionally, the Senate granted semi-sanction to projects aimed at preserving historical archives within the Civil Registry and combating human trafficking, while also approving resolutions to improve road infrastructure across various departments.
