Catania City Council to review San Berillo redevelopment project

The Catania City Council has scheduled an extraordinary session to present a new redevelopment project for the Corso dei Martiri area in the San Berillo district. The proposal, presented by the company IStica and led by architect Marco Casamonti, aims to complete a long-standing urban recovery plan for an area that has remained unfinished for over sixty years.

The new design includes a concert hall with a capacity of up to 3,000 spectators, high-standard hotels, and a reduction in commercial space. This initiative follows decades of legal disputes, ownership changes, and previous unfulfilled masterplans. Mayor Enrico Trantino described the project as a new path to address a significant urban wound caused by mid-century demolition works.
