Catania submits Sant’Agata Festival dossier for UNESCO recognition
On October 30, the city of Catania will hold the “Domus Agathae” concert-event at the Cathedral Basilica to mark the formal delivery of the Sant’Agata Festival candidacy dossier to Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli. The dossier seeks to include the festival on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The application process was a collaborative effort involving the Municipality of Catania, the Metropolitan Archdiocese, the University of Catania, and the Sant’Agata Festival Committee. The preparation involved scholars, institutions, artisans, and citizens to document and safeguard the centuries-old tradition.
The event will feature the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Massimo Bellini alongside the Agatina Musical Chapel. Following the delivery to the Ministry, the dossier will undergo evaluation by national institutions to determine if the Italian state will officially present the candidacy to UNESCO.
