Catanzaro implements waste management reform and tariff changes

In Catanzaro, the municipal government is advancing a major waste management overhaul. The city has applied for 1.7 million euros in funding to transition from the current TARI system to a 'Tariffa Puntuale' (TARIP). This new model follows the 'polluter pays' principle, where household and non-domestic users pay based on the actual amount of non-recyclable waste produced.

The proposed investment includes 1.2 million euros for infrastructure such as 29 eco-islands, 30 anti-abandonment surveillance cameras, an advanced web platform for user monitoring, and new electric cleaning equipment. Additionally, 500,000 euros are earmarked for upgrading the municipal collection center in Viale Magna Grecia. The administration is also exploring incentive programs to reward citizens who correctly use collection centers.

Separately, in another regional context, Mayor Roberto Lagalla is facing political opposition regarding the municipal budget and administration results. While the majority highlights a reduction in municipal debt from 568 to 168 million euros and improved waste recycling rates, the opposition criticizes rising waste tariffs and ongoing service issues in various neighborhoods.
