Calabria signs innovation pact for AI and digital healthcare
Calabria is advancing its digital infrastructure through a strategic agreement between the Calabria Region, the Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the University of Calabria. The partnership aims to establish the region as an innovation hub by developing High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure and promoting quantum computing and artificial intelligence. Key projects include the creation of data centers, satellite connectivity experimentation, and the integration of advanced technologies into public administration, industry, and research.
A major focus of the initiative is digital healthcare. Plans include the implementation of an electronic health record system and the development of a ‘virtual hospital’ using digital platforms to enable remote patient monitoring and management.
In addition to technological shifts, regional authorities are addressing environmental and territorial management. Officials in Catanzaro have met with prefects to discuss a masterplan for land maintenance and risk mitigation ahead of the autumn and winter seasons. Furthermore, the Li Comuni Park in Catanzaro is undergoing a full reopening following restoration efforts, including the inauguration of new hiking trails. Local municipal services are also being reorganized, with Catanzaro Servizi taking over public green space management to improve efficiency.
