Cateno De Luca launches 'Governo di Liberazione' and shifts negotiations to Rome

Cateno De Luca, leader of the Sud chiama Nord movement, held a fully‑booked convention at the Teatro Politeama in Palermo on 18 July 2026. He unveiled the “Governo di Liberazione” project, presenting a ten‑point programme that calls for full implementation of Sicily’s special autonomy, administrative simplification, public‑finance recovery, infrastructure upgrades, essential‑service revitalisation, cultural heritage promotion, renewable‑energy development, support for enterprises, quality public services and increased youth participation.

De Luca announced that the movement will end its talks with Sicilian parties and move the political negotiations to the national secretariats in Rome, aiming to build a national political force for upcoming elections. He claimed Sud chiama Nord is the first party in Sicily with over 20 % of the vote in 17 municipalities that used proportional voting, and called for early regional elections, the resignation of regional parliamentarians and an immediate return to the polls. A national conference is planned for October in Rome, with the goal of presenting lists nationwide in future electoral contests. The event was attended by numerous local administrators and politicians from across the Italian political spectrum.
