Cateno De Luca's Sud Chiama Nord set to join Palermo council as centre‑right coalition reshapes

Cateno De Luca’s civic list Sud Chiama Nord is preparing to take seats in the Palermo municipal council, with formal entry expected on 1 July. The list, backed by former regional officials including Mauro Pantò and Andrea Mineo, will add former senators and local politicians such as Franco Siino and Alfredo Siino to the council, potentially altering the mayor’s majority.

The move follows a series of public disagreements in Sicily’s political arena. De Luca has been criticised by PD figures and by regional candidate Ismaele La Vardera, who warned against being a “boy” of the centre‑right. Meanwhile, leaders of the Sicilian centre‑right parties – Forza Italia, Fratelli d'Italia, Lega, Noi ModeratI, Grande Sicilia and Democrazia Cristiana – met in Palermo to stress tighter coordination after recent elections, citing the need for a unified platform.

Both developments signal a re‑configuration of the governing coalition ahead of Palermo’s municipal elections, with De Luca’s entry likely to influence party dynamics and candidate selections for the upcoming mayoral race.
