Catholic Church commemorates saints for August 9 and 10
The Catholic Church observes various saints and beatified figures throughout the month of August.
On August 9, the Church commemorates Saint Candida Maria de Jesus, a Spanish religious figure who founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus in 1571 to focus on the education of children and youth. Other figures recognized on this day include Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Fedlimino of Kilmor, Nateo of Achad, Osvaldo of Maserfield, and Roman the Jailer.
On August 10, the Church celebrates Saint Lawrence, a third-century deacon and martyr who served Pope Sixtus II in Rome. Known for his service to the poor, widows, and orphans, he was executed during the persecutions of Emperor Valerian. Other saints observed on August 10 include Saint Blano of Dumblan, Saint Asteria of Bergamo, Saint Agatho of Lérins, Blessed Arcángel de Calatafino Piacentini, Blessed José Toledo Pellicer, and Blessed Juan Martorell Soria.
