Catholic liturgical calendar saint commemorations

The Catholic Church’s daily liturgical calendar continues to assign specific saints and blesseds to each calendar day. In July 2026, the calendar highlighted figures such as the Old-Testament prophet Elijah, Saint Margaret of Antioch, and several early-20th-century Russian martyrs. The preceding days in mid-July included commemorations for Santa Justa and Santa Rufina, the patron saints of Sevilla, as well as Santa Áurea of Córdoba.

By late July, the calendar featured Santa Marta de Betania, a patron revered in Mexico, alongside saints like San Calimero, San Lázaro, and Santa María. The 28 July entry recalled early-century martyrs San Nazario and San Celso, whose witness is remembered across Europe, particularly in Spain.

Moving into August 2026, the Church observed Saint Candida Maria de Jesus on 9 August, a Spanish religious figure who founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus. Other figures recognized on that day included Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and Roman the Jailer. On 10 August, the calendar celebrated Saint Lawrence, a third-century deacon and martyr known for his service to the poor in Rome. Additional observances included Saint Blano of Dumblan, Saint Asteria of Bergamo, and several blessed figures such as Arcángel de Calatafino Piacentini.

On 15 August 2026, the liturgical calendar includes the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Santa María del Alba. The date also honors San Estanislao de Kostka, a Polish Jesuit novice who died in Rome in 1568 and is venerated as a patron for students. Other recognized figures for this date include Nuestra Señora del Prado, Alfredo de Hildeseheim, Alipio de Tagaste, David Roldán Lara, Luis Batis Sáinz, Manuel Morales, Salvador Lara Puente, Simpliciano de Milán, and Tarcisio.
