Catholic Church in Brazil raises R$ 2.9 million for Venezuela earthquake relief

The Catholic Church in Brazil has raised R$ 2,921,575.76 through its ‘SOS Venezuela – Solidarity and Fraternity’ campaign to assist families affected by earthquakes in Venezuela. The funds will be transferred to Caritas Venezuela to support humanitarian reconstruction efforts.

The aid is intended to assist with community support, the reconstruction of homes, the recovery of livelihoods, and the purchase of essential items. According to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of August 24, the earthquakes that struck in June resulted in 6,509 deaths and affected at least 1.3 million people.

Dom Mário Antônio, the Archbishop of Aparecida and president of Caritas Brasileira, stated that the resources are strictly for the benefit of the Venezuelan population and will not be directed to any political or individual institutions.
