Humanitarian relief for Venezuela earthquake victims

Overview

Following earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June, international humanitarian efforts have focused on fundraising for relief and reconstruction.

In September, Cáritas reported raising over 27,000 euros to assist those affected by the disaster, with funds being managed by Cáritas Española to address the ongoing emergency.

By October, the Catholic Church in Brazil announced it had raised R$ 2.9 million through its ‘SOS Venezuela – Solidarity and Fraternity’ campaign. These funds are designated for Caritas Venezuela to support community aid, home reconstruction, and livelihood recovery. According to United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) data, the June earthquakes resulted in 6,509 deaths and affected at least 1.3 million people. Dom Mário Antônio, president of Caritas Brasileira, emphasized that the resources are strictly for the Venezuelan population and will not be directed to political or individual institutions.
