Catholic libraries in Würzburg receive Golden Library Seal

Forty-one Catholic Public Libraries (KÖB) in the Diocese of Würzburg have been awarded the Golden “BüchereiSiegel” by the Sankt Michaelsbund for their high-quality work. During a ceremony in Würzburg, Bishop Dr. Franz Jung presented certificates to 34 of these institutions, praising the combination of volunteer commitment and professional quality.

In addition to the institutional awards, Christine Herrmann of KÖB Glattbach and Nikolaus Seitz of KÖB Pflaumheim received honorary certificates from the Sankt Michaelsbund for their long-standing dedication to library work.

During the event, Bishop Jung highlighted the critical importance of literacy, warning of the “devastating consequences” of declining reading skills among children. He noted that improving reading competence is increasingly necessary to ensure children can participate fully in society and secure future employment.
