Library quality awards in Bavaria

Overview

In late October 2026, several libraries in Bavaria received recognition for their service and educational contributions.

In the Diocese of Würzburg, forty-one Catholic Public Libraries (KÖB) were awarded the Golden ‘BüchereiSiegel’ by the Sankt Michaelsbund. During the presentation, Bishop Dr. Franz Jung emphasized the necessity of improving reading competence to prevent ‘devastating consequences’ regarding children’s ability to participate in society.

Concurrently, 70 libraries across Bavaria, including the Würzburg City Library, were honored with the ‘Bibliotheken – Partner der Schulen’ seal of quality for the 2026–2028 period. This award recognizes institutions that cooperate with schools to enhance literacy and media skills. Bavarian Ministers Markus Blume and Anna Stolz noted that these libraries act as vital extracurricular learning spaces that provide equitable access to media.
