CATL launches large 587 Ah LFP cells for energy storage
CATL has begun commercializing new 587 Ah LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells specifically designed for stationary energy storage systems. Available through CATL Mall, the cells are priced at approximately 435 yuan per kWh.
These large prismatic cells each store about 1.88 kWh with a nominal voltage of roughly 3.2 V. Each unit weighs 10.6 kg and measures 31 cm in length, 22 cm in height, and 7.3 cm in width. Due to their scale, they are not sold individually; the minimum order is 324 cells, totaling a capacity of approximately 608 kWh.
To illustrate their scale, a 50 kWh battery capacity could be achieved with just 27 of these CATL cells. In comparison, reaching the same capacity would require approximately 110 Volkswagen/PowerCo Unified Cells or over 500 Tesla 4680 cylindrical cells.
