Catoira Viking Festival draws thousands for historic reenactment
The town of Catoira in Galicia celebrated the 66th edition of its Viking Romería on 2 August. The event featured a theatrical landing of Norman‑style Vikings at the historic Torres de Oeste, a medieval market with crafts and food stalls, and evening concerts that kept visitors on the streets until late. Organized by the Catoira council with backing from the Xunta de Galicia, the festival is officially recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional. Thousands of tourists flocked to the coastal village, filling hotels and boosting the local economy for the summer season. A children’s “mini‑Viking landing” was also staged, showing the organizers’ effort to keep the tradition fresh for new generations.
