Catoira Viking Festival growth
Entities: Catoira · Rosalía de Castro · Romería Vikinga · Santi Cortegoso · Xunta de Galicia
Overview
In late July, organizers announced that the annual Romaría Vikinga in Catoira would broaden its cultural offering. A new Viking‑themed market opened with more than 60 stalls and food trucks, and the theatre programme introduced a women‑centred play, “Torres que resisten,” performed by a group of young girls.
Two days later, the 66th edition of the festival took place. A large‑scale reenactment of a Viking landing was staged at the historic Torres de Oeste, accompanied by the expanded market, concerts and a children’s “mini‑Viking landing.” The event attracted thousands of visitors, was highlighted as an International Tourist Interest Fiesta, and generated a noticeable boost to the local summer economy.
