Cauca car bomb attack destroys El Bordo toll booth

A vehicle laden with explosives detonated on the morning of Monday, October 12, 2026, at the El Bordo toll booth in the La Depresión sector of Cauca, Colombia. The explosion destroyed a significant portion of the toll facilities and caused the temporary closure of the Pan-American highway, a strategic transport corridor connecting Popayán and Pasto.

Authorities reported that the attack left three civilians injured. The Colombian Army confirmed that no soldiers or members of the public force were affected by the blast. Military intelligence has attributed the attack to the Carlos Patiño structure, a FARC dissident group operating under the command of Iván Mordisco.

Following the explosion, the Army's 29th Brigade and the National Police deployed personnel and aerial support to secure the area and search for additional explosive devices. A suspicious cylinder bearing messages related to the dissidents was also located near the site.
