The Ombudsman’s Office reported a 146% increase in drone attacks equipped with explosives between January and May compared to the previous year, with concentrations in Antioquia, Cauca, and Catatumbo. Recent data indicates that between January 2024 and October 5, 2026, 443 attacks were recorded, with 2026 seeing the highest frequency at 177 cases. These incidents have resulted in 25 deaths and 356 injuries among security forces.

In the Huila department, the Ismael Ruiz Structure, part of the Isaías Pardo Central Block, has been identified as responsible for multiple drone attacks against the 9th Brigade near Neiva. Armed groups have also targeted police stations in Teruel, Palermo, and Íquira, prompting local curfews. In Cesar, a drone attack on a police station in Pelaya injured six officers, leading authorities to offer a reward of up to 150 million pesos. In Norte de Santander, a swarm of drones targeted a station in El Carmen for thirty minutes, causing infrastructure damage and widespread panic. Similar drone warfare has been reported in the Catatumbo region, including Tibú, El Tarra, and Sardinata, where social leaders warn of displacement and disrupted schooling.

Regarding the recruitment crisis, armed groups increasingly use social media like TikTok and Facebook to recruit minors. Data from the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) indicates that 44% of minors recruited during 2025 were captured through social media, where accounts are used to “glamorize life within illegal groups.”
