Caulonia mayor condemns waste dumping as opposition demands assessor’s resignation

Mayor Francesco Cagliuso of Caulonia denounced recent illegal waste dumping across the town – from riverbanks and a playground to the seafront near Lido Mustache – as acts that “offend the decorum and image of our country.” The municipal police, aided by surveillance footage, identified a culprit and opened a sanctions procedure, while the mayor urged residents to report any further incidents.

Local opposition groups representing several parties have submitted a letter demanding the resignation of Councilor Antonella Ierace. They argue that her simultaneous roles in the municipal cabinet and the board of a local civil‑protection association create a conflict of interest that threatens impartiality and institutional credibility. The opposition describes the resignation as a “necessary choice to protect the institutions.”
