Cauvery water management authorities to meet in Delhi over scarcity

Meetings of the Cauvery Water Management Committee (CWRC) and the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) are scheduled to take place in New Delhi to discuss water sharing amidst a significant monsoon deficit and drought conditions.

Due to reduced rainfall, inflows into reservoirs within the Cauvery basin have dropped from 20,000 to 10,000 cusecs. Karnataka officials are expected to present the reality of the state's water shortage, noting that while 32 TMC of water has been released so far, current levels may not allow for further releases to Tamil Nadu. Karnataka requires 48 TMC of water to meet drinking needs through July.

While Karnataka aims to highlight the severity of the drought, Tamil Nadu is expected to maintain its demand for the release of pending water volumes, following previous orders from the committee and the Supreme Court.
