Farmers in Mandya staged semi‑nude demonstrations, chanting “We will give blood, but not water,” while pro‑Kannada groups in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Ramanagara carried empty pots and labelled the directive “unscientific.” Police erected barricades, deployed BMTC buses and detained several activists. Opposition leader R. Ashok warned of further street protests if the release proceeds, and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar confirmed that Karnataka will file an appeal within days.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay reiterated his appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to block approval of Karnataka’s Mekedatu balancing‑reservoir, describing the Union Minister’s response as “disappointing.” The Karnataka BJP blamed the state’s Congress‑led government for a weak stance, while opposition parties warned of possible unrest. The CWRC has scheduled its next meeting for 11 August, leaving the dispute unresolved.
