Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo criticizes PSOE's future

Spanish political tensions have escalated following sharp exchanges between members of the People's Party (PP) and the Socialist Party (PSOE). Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, a PP deputy, criticized the PSOE during a pre-campaign event in Palencia, claiming the party is in a moral and political crisis. She stated that the PSOE is “dead” and faces a choice between “refoundation or extinction,” calling for a break from the current leadership under Pedro Sánchez.

In response to personal criticisms from Álvarez de Toledo regarding her political decisions, PSOE candidate Adriana Lastra rejected the notion that she requires approval or “lessons” from her opponent. Lastra, who is leading the PSOE list for Asturias, defended her return to the political forefront as a commitment to defending workers' rights and equality against the PP's project.

Álvarez de Toledo's critiques included attacks on President Pedro Sánchez, whom she described as a “pathetic populist,” and suggested that the socialist party must undergo a transformation similar to the Suresnes Congress of the 1970s to regain credibility.
