CBC begins search for Canada's first Eurovision representative

CBC/Radio-Canada has launched a nationwide search to select Canada’s first-ever representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. The inaugural Canadian entry will compete at the 2027 contest in Bulgaria.

Registration for interested artists opens on August 31 and will remain open until September 9. To be eligible, applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and at least 18 years of age. CBC executive vice-president Doug Smith noted the broadcaster is seeking a “magnetic” performer with a proven ability to captivate large live audiences through vocal power, stage presence, or original artistry.

The selection process will involve shortlisting finalists this fall. The ultimate winner will be determined by combining a digital public vote with a review from a music-industry jury. Once the artist is selected, they will collaborate with industry professionals to develop their specific song and stage performance.
