CBF admits refereeing errors in Flamengo vs Fluminense derby
The CBF Refereeing Commission has acknowledged significant errors made by referee Rafael Klein during the recent Fla-Flu derby between Flamengo and Fluminense at the Maracanã.
Following an internal review, the commission determined that Erick Pulgar should have received a red card for a violent challenge on Rodrigo Castillo. The entity noted that the referee should have issued an expulsion or, alternatively, the VAR should have intervened to recommend a review of the play.
Additionally, the commission concluded that a penalty should have been awarded to Fluminense after Alex Sandro fouled Savarino inside the area. While the commission agreed that the VAR acted correctly by not intervening—citing the interpretative nature of the play—they maintained that the on-field official should have called the foul.
Regarding a separate complaint from Fluminense, the commission ruled that no penalty occurred during the interaction between Léo Ortiz and Rodrigo Castillo.
