CBI Chargesheet Names Two BJP Workers in Murder of West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide
The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a chargesheet against 11 individuals for the May 6 murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Six of the accused acted as sharpshooters, recruited from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while three were identified as linkmen connecting the shooters to the conspirators. The two conspirators named are brothers Sagar Sonkar and Sahib Sonkar, both BJP workers who previously worked for Rath during the state election campaign.
The chargesheet, submitted to Barasat Court, details that the brothers financed and organized the killing, hiring the shooters and coordinating the plot that began in December of the previous year. All 11 suspects have been arrested, except one who remains absconding. The case has heightened political tension in West Bengal, with the ruling Trinamool Congress condemning the murder and calling for a court‑monitored CBI probe.
