CBS: Younger Dutch generations hold more wealth than parents

Data from the national statistics office CBS indicates that younger generations in the Netherlands generally possess more wealth and purchasing power than their parents or grandparents did at comparable ages. For instance, individuals born between 1970 and 1985 reached an average purchasing power of €44,100 at age 45, approximately 40% higher than baby boomers at the same age.

However, the report highlights significant exceptions regarding housing. While the 1970–1985 cohort shows high homeownership rates, the number of 25- to 35-year-olds living at home has increased due to rising house prices and a housing shortage. Additionally, the youngest adults, including Millennials and Generation Z, currently hold less wealth than previous generations did at age 30, largely because they remain in education longer and enter the workforce later.
