Cúcuta-Puerto Santander road fatality involves multiple hit-and-runs
An elderly man died in a violent series of hit-and-run incidents on the Cúcuta-Puerto Santander road in Colombia during the early hours of August 25. The victim was found on the asphalt approximately two kilometers from the entrance to the highway from Cúcuta.
Reports indicate that an initial, likely fatal, impact occurred near a transit parking lot. The responsible driver fled, leaving the body in the middle of the lane. Due to darkness and a curve in the road, subsequent vehicles struck the body multiple times.
Passersby attempted to secure the scene by placing a safety triangle provided by a truck driver, but the device was broken and the body was displaced by oncoming traffic. To prevent further accidents, bystanders used bushes, wood, stones, and a traffic cone to create an improvised barrier and covered the victim with a sheet. Authorities were notified around 6:00 a.m. to coordinate the removal of the body.
