CD Projekt RED begins work on original IP Project Hadar

CD Projekt RED has reached a major milestone with Project Hadar, the studio’s first entirely original intellectual property. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski announced that after years of world-building, the team has established a coherent vision for this new universe. While work has officially begun on the project, it has not yet entered the pre-production phase.

Project Hadar is described as the studio’s “biggest undertaking to date.” Unlike the Witcher or Cyberpunk franchises, this project is not based on existing licenses and is expected to be an emotional, open-world RPG. The development team for Hadar has been expanding, with plans to reach approximately 50 developers by the end of the year.

The studio is simultaneously managing several high-stakes projects, including The Witcher 4 and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Industry analysts, including former BioWare executive Mark Darrah, have noted the significant financial risks associated with such massive productions. He pointed out that high-budget titles like The Witcher 4 may require sales of 15 to 20 million copies just to cover production costs and avoid losses.
